18/02/14 High swells - all in a day’s work for Triton!
The rough seas around the Canary Islands are renowned for their high swells and continuous strong winds – which is why our Triton pens are the ideal choice in such demanding offshore environments.
As these stunning images show, the incredible strength and flexibility of Triton is an essential asset when it comes to handling tricky conditions where wind speeds typically average 20-25mph during the summer. The photographs were taken in a rougher than normal 4.5m high swell at an organic Sea Bass farm operated by Inter Aqua Canarias that is located 3km offshore from the east side of Gran Canaria. It is an extremely exposed offshore location with a fetch of around 2,000km from the prevailing north to north easterly winds!
The farm, which was installed in June 2012, features 80m circumference three-ring Triton 400 pens and currently has a harvest capacity of around 600 tonnes, which is anticipated to grow as the company expands.
