New
pontoon will help estate enhance its potential
An estate on
the Isle of Mull has recently installed a marine pontoon that will
enhance its business potential by opening up new leisure opportunities.
Outdoor equipment
specialists Fusion Marine Ltd supplied the 89m pontoon to Ben More
Estate for a site on the shore of Loch na Keal on the West coast
of Mull. The structure is ideal for landing small or medium sized
vessels and provides mooring for inflatable dinghies and other tender
craft.
The 2.2m wide
pontoon is fully decked in recycled plastic, underlining Ben More
Estate's commitment to the environment. This is further reinforced
by the low visual impact of the pontoon, which was an essential
element of the installation process, given that it is on a Site
of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
Buoyancy is
provided by thick walled 315mm plastic flotation pipes and the flexible
construction of the pontoon enables it to follow the contours of
the 30m foreshore at low tide, allowing convenient and dry access.
The pontoon,
which has rope rails, is unobtrusively secured to the shore by a
concrete bridgehead that can easily be moved should the need arise.
"The pontoon
provides us with a facility that allows easy marine access, which
in turn will greatly help existing estate operations and to develop
new activities such as sea angling and attracting leisure craft,"
said Tim Radford of Ben More Estate.
Iain Forbes
of Fusion Marine said: "These individually designed pontoons
offer superb opportunities for estates, small communities and hotels
for providing simple low maintenance marine access where many other
pontoon designs would not survive thus dramatically enhancing their
business potential."
